Social containers - tailored to the client
Having been operating in the modular building industry for over 60 years, we are aware that the needs of the customer are the most important. Therefore, we make every effort to ensure that our offer meets them 100%. The social containers we supply are tailored to the customer's requirements in terms of equipment, the time they can use them, and the price.
Configurations of welfare units: changing room, canteen, common room
Algeco site huts are based on a standard module with external dimensions of 6055 × 2435 × 2790 mm (usable floor area approx. 13.3 m²), and larger facilities are created by joining modules together. The same-sized module is used for all welfare facilities – so the differences between the changing room, canteen and common room lie in the fittings and interior layout, rather than the dimensions.
The changing room is fitted with staff lockers and benches. The canteen (dining room) is fitted with tables, seating and, if required, a kitchenette. The common room is designed as a communal space with seating. Each of these configurations can also be combined with a sanitary module to create a staff and sanitary facility.
A container with a bathroom / shower
A welfare container can be combined with a sanitary module to create a facility with its own bathroom, shower or toilet – without the need for a separate sanitary block. This addresses the growing demand for ‘welfare containers with a bathroom’, a topic which the website had not previously covered in a separate section.
The welfare and sanitary unit is ideal for construction sites and locations without access to sanitary facilities. We have described the different types of sanitary modules and their dimensions on the sanitary containers page.

Uses of social containers: construction sites, events, industrial premises
Containers are most commonly used as support facilities on building sites – as health and safety changing rooms and rest areas for work crews, even where there is a high turnover of subcontractors. Their modular design allows the facilities to be scaled up or down in line with the size of the workforce at each stage of the project.
Outside the construction industry, welfare modules are also well-suited for use at events (facilities for staff and performers), in manufacturing plants (changing rooms and canteens for shift workers) and in educational establishments. We have provided further details on staff facilities in the sections on construction site facilities and changing rooms.
FAQ – renting social containers
How many people can be in a social container at any one time?
It depends on its intended use. Health and safety regulations require an adequate volume of air per person – we take this into account when selecting the configuration. We will determine the exact capacity based on the room’s function (changing room, canteen) and the project requirements.
What equipment is normally included in a social container?
We tailor the equipment in a welfare container to individual requirements. Algeco can fully fit out the container with furniture, a kitchenette, and modern lighting and ventilation systems. As part of our 360° Service, we offer comprehensive container fit-outs. We will finalise the exact specification during a consultation based on the room’s function (cloakroom, canteen, common room).
Are containers heated and air-conditioned?
Yes, containers are fitted with a heating system that maintains a comfortable temperature – an electric heater. Algeco also offers other solutions, encouraging customers to choose energy-efficient appliances such as heat pumps. Air conditioning is not always included as standard, but it can be ordered as an optional extra as part of the 360° Service. This is an excellent choice, particularly for modules intended for long-term use, including during the summer when temperatures are high.
How often are containers serviced during the hire period?
The frequency of servicing depends on the terms of the contract. As part of the 360° Service, we offer technical inspections, maintenance of installations and a rapid response in the event of a breakdown. Details are agreed on a case-by-case basis for each project.
Can a social container be combined with other modules, such as sanitary modules?
Yes, the modules can be combined into multi-module configurations. Combining a social container with a sanitary module creates a complete welfare facility – a changing room, canteen and toilets all in one place. The modules are connected via passageways or shared corridors, ensuring user comfort.
How much does it cost to hire a welfare container?
The hire price depends on the size and number of modules, the scope of fittings (lockers, kitchenette, heating, sanitary facilities), the duration of the hire and the location. Transport and installation are added to the cost of the module. A consultant will prepare a detailed quote once the configuration has been finalised.
Can a welfare container have its own bathroom?
Yes. A welfare module can be combined with a sanitary module to create a facility with its own toilet, washbasin or shower. This is a typical configuration on building sites without access to permanent sanitary facilities – see the sanitary containers page for details.
